What is your personal relationship to or connection with mindfulness?
I value it as a form of wellness for everyone and would like to know more, and connect to others who are interested in different forms of mindfulness.Have practiced it a bit in group leadership workshops, but no formal training as of yet.
What is your professional work? As this is a mindfulness-based professional's network we require each member to disclose his or her profession (i.e. teacher, psychotherapist, MD, lawyer, etc.)
I am an educator and percussionist. I teach part time at Carleton U in the Music and African Studies departments. I am the founder/director of Baobab Tree Drum Dance Community, a non profit arts education organization and I also freelance in schools giving drumming workshops & performances.
Using mindfulness-based techniques in professional work
I've been using West African drumming, dancing and singing in my work with students of all ages for over 25 years and have observed the many parallels with mindfulness. Just finished writing a thesis at Carleton U on the positive effects of drumming on the mental, social and physical health of adolescents.
