What is your personal relationship to or connection with mindfulness?
My connection to mindfulness involves searching for something that would help me through intense anxiety, depression and through facing major happenings in my life. Reading about the art of being mindful helped me label my emotions and be able to recognize them again when they re-emerged. I love recognizing the beauty and the feel of life around me and mindfulness allows me to self-calm and regulate by living in the now and being non-judgmental of my processes.
What is your professional work? As this is a mindfulness-based professional's network we require each member to disclose his or her profession (i.e. teacher, psychotherapist, MD, lawyer, etc.)
I am a student studying social work at Carleton University. I am in my 4th year of my BSW and I want to learn more about mindfulness meditations because I feel that it would benefit me as a practitioner as well as the people I will work with.
Using mindfulness-based techniques in professional work
I am doing my final project of mindfulness and it's space in social work. So, I really want to be able to practice myself, because mindfulness is an act. I feel that it is important to read as well as do when it comes to mindfulness meditation. I also work as a mentor in both elementary and high schools and I feel that working on my mindfulness would be an asset in my present job.
