Mindfulness‐Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) group, led by Dr.Kimberly Sogge, C.Psych. (Clinical Health Psychologist),
is based on the Mindfulness‐Based Cognitive Therapy protocols of Dr. Zindel Segal and research team at CAMH.
The MBCT group may be appropriate for individuals with one or more prior episodes of severe depression who are currently in recovery, or for individuals with mild to moderate depression. This experiential group teaches mindfulness practices as a way to encounter and identify those modes of mind that often characterize mood disorders, while simultaneously learning to develop a new relationship to them.MBCT teaches individuals to become aware of conditioned patterns of mind and mood in an innovative 8‐session program that integrates mindfulness meditation with cognitive therapy to prevent depressive relapse. Through the practice of mindful awareness, participants develop the capacity to relate differently to distressing moods and negative thoughts by strengthening an orientation to the present moment. This helps individuals recognize the early signs of relapse, allowing for skillful intervention before mood symptoms and negative thought patterns become more severe. The MBCT group will meet on Wednesday evenings from 7:30‐9:00 p.m. at the PranaShanti Yoga Centre, beginning on October 21, 2015 and running for 8weeks until December 9, 2015.
A FULL‐DAY silent and guided practice “Mindful Awakening Urban Day Retreat” is included after session 4, and will be held on Saturday, November 14, 2015, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
COST: $595, which includes course handouts and practice MP3s, and full‐day retreat.
