Event Description

The Atlantic Contemplative Centre* (ACC) is pleased to announce a series of webinars entitled “Foundations of Applied Mindfulness and Contemplation”.

Over the past decade there has been an exponential growth in the application of mindfulness and contemplation related concepts and practices in health care, education, business, arts and sports. While these applications appear to be beneficial, and hold the promise of significantly shifting western culture and society in a constructive direction, there has been relatively little high quality systematic documentation, evaluation and research.

Systematic study is important not only to support resource allocation for further applications, but to guide development of applications so that they can be effective and accessible. As well, anyone who is, or plans to use applied mindfulness and contemplation in their own professional work will need to have a clear understanding of the evidence upon which they are basing their applications.

With these issues in mind, the Atlantic Contemplative Centre is offering a series of webinars entitled: “Foundations of Applied Mindfulness and Contemplation”.

In these webinars, faculty of the ACC will discuss issues that are fundamental to the application of mindfulness and related contemplative concepts and practices.

The material presented in this series is intended to provide personal and professional development support for people who have a personal contemplative practice and are interested in applying contemplative concepts and practices in their professional life as well.

Schedule:

April 14: Dr. David Whitehorn, Core Concepts in the Field of Mindfulness

April 28: Dr. Timothy Walker, Mindfulness and the Body

May 5: Dr. David Whitehorn, Mindfulness and Research

May 12: Dr. David Sable, Mindfulness and Contemplation

May 19: Dr. David Whitehorn and Jim Torbert, Mindfulness and Compassion

The webinars will be presented on Sundays at 3pm Atlantic time. They will also be recorded so that participants can view them at their own convenience.
