Event Description

This group will give you a new perspective on shyness and social anxiety by helping you open up to difficult thoughts and feelings while doing what really matters to you.

The winter 2019 Mindfulness and Acceptance-Based Group for Social Anxiety will be led by Registered Psychotherapist Kathryn Palmer M.Ed, RP, C.C.C.

** Early bird rate available until December 06th 2018**

This group was developed by Dr. Jan Fleming and Dr. Nancy Kocovski, researchers and authors of The Mindfulness & Acceptance Workbook for Social Anxiety & Shyness. This evidence-based program combines Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) with treatment components drawn from Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) and Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR). You will receive a workbook and have the opportunity to practice new skills during the group and between meetings.

By the end of this 10-week program, you can expect to:

  • Learn how to shift from “Safety Mode” to “Vital-Action Mode”
  • Develop mindfulness skills to help change the way you relate to uncomfortable thoughts and feelings.
  • Create greater distance between you and your anxious thoughts.
  • Have a more concrete understanding of your values.
  • Learn how to set and work towards realistic goals in social situations.
